Srinagar, Aug 30 (KNO): The Diamond Jubilee of the Battle of Haji Pir was solemnly observed in Boniyar, Baramulla district, marking 60 years since one of the most decisive victories of the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
As per a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event honoured the extraordinary bravery and indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers who scaled steep ridges under enemy fire to secure the strategically significant Haji Pir Pass.
The day commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Pir Panjal War Memorial, Boniyar. The solemn tribute was led by Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava UYSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps, joined by the General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division, and proud veterans of the Battle of Haji Pir.
As the buglers sounded the 'Last Post' and the tricolour soared proudly in the mountain breeze, all indls present at the event bowed their heads in reverence. Veterans stood shoulder to shoulder with serving soldiers, exemplifying the enduring bond of camaraderie, sacrifice, and service.
The commemoration culminated in a vibrant and heartfelt cultural programme at the Army Goodwill School, Boniyar. The event opened with a powerful musical performance by the legendary Indian Army Brass Band.Their stirring patriotic melodies echoed through the valley, rekindling the spirit of 1965.
The spotlight then shifted to the students of the school, whose inspiring songs and dance performance paid tribute to the valour of the Indian Armed Forces.
The energetic performances by school children formed a poignant bridge between generations, evoking pride and emotion.
The Strings of Baramulla Band further enhanced the atmosphere with their soulful patriotic renditions. A special highlight was a mesmerising Sand Art performance by renowned artist Mr. Sudhakanth, who vividly depicted the story of the battle through his evolving art. His portrayal of the soldiers’ fearless advance and the symbolic hoisting of the tricolour left a deep emotional impact on the audience.
The event concluded with the release of a Special Day Cover by the Northern Army Commander and veterans, commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of the Battle of Haji Pir. This philatelic tribute serves as a lasting reminder of the sacrifice, professionalism and unwavering commitment of Indian soldiers.
